Vikings Fall on the Road
Orange City, Iowa ~
The Dana College Women’s Basketball team traveled to
Northwestern College on Saturday afternoon. The nationally rated Red
Raiders proved to be unkind hosts as they defeated the Vikings 90-50.
The two teams battled back and forth
in the early stages of the first half. Tricia Trotter (FR,
Treynor, IA) tied the game up as she hit a lay-up in the first half.
Amy Nichol (JR, Des Moines, IA) gave Dana its only lead of the game
as she sank a 12-foot jumper two minutes in the first half. Amanda
Bryant (SO, Treynor, IA) extended the Viking lead to three points as
she sank two free throws. The Red Raiders regained the lead with 16:49
to go, but Nichol once again drew the Vikings even. Northwestern
finished the half on a 36-14 run
The second half didn’t fair much
better for Dana as Northwestern stretched the lead to as many as 46
points. Lauren Brooks (SO, Raymond, NE) snapped a Red Raider run
by hitting a jumper with four minutes left.
Shooting foes haunted Dana the
entire game as they shot only 26.2-percent for the day. Northwestern
shot a warm 56.2-percent for the day. Amanda Bryant led the
Vikings with 19 points. Bryant also pulled down four rebounds. Amy
Nichol continued her steady play with 14 points and four steals.
Megan Parker (SO, Sloan, IA) gave the Vikings seven points and three
rebounds off of the bench. Tricia Trotter pulled down eight
rebounds and chipped in six points.
The loss drops Dana to 11-13 on the
season and 3-11 in conference. The Vikings will host Concordia
University (15-11, 7-7) on February 6 at 7:30pm.
