Women’s Basketball Tripped Up on the Road

The Dana Women’s Basketball team dropped its first game
of the season on Saturday evening. York College defeated Dana 60-51 in
non-conference play.
The Panthers used the Vikings normal
strengths against them. York College threw four players 5’ 10” or
taller at Dana. The Panthers dominated the offensive and defensive
boards and held a 33-27 rebound margin. Also, Dana did not find the
rims of in the Freeman Center to their liking. The Vikings shot only
37-percent on the evening compared to the Panthers 47-percent. The lone
bright spot for the team was that the strong bench play of Dana
continued. The Vikings’ bench outscored their opponent 17-9.
Allie Lamb
(SO, North English, IA) once again led the Vikings in
scoring with 11 points, but was limited to only one rebound.
Michelle Weinrich (JR, Pierce, NE) was the only other Viking in
double digits with ten points. Felicia Ellis (JR, Rockwell City,
IA) led the Vikings with eight rebounds. Jen Endres (JR,
Lincoln, NE) only was able to dish out two assists on the evening.
We weren’t able to get the rebounds
like we had in previous games,” commented Viking Coach Brenda Mechels.
“Our shots were not falling and we weren’t able to get the second
chances we have in the previous games.”
This was the first loss of the
season for the Vikings who are now at 3-1 on the season. York College
was garnering votes in the first NAIA, Division II poll. Dana is home
for their next two games. Dana will host a non-conference match-up with
Peru State on Tuesday. Then on Saturday, November 18 the Vikings will
host conference foe Hastings College. Tip off for Tuesday night is
7:30pm.
