Vikings Drop Last Season Game
The Viking women’s basketball team
traveled to Seward, Nebraska for its last regular season basketball game
on Saturday. It would not be an easy task for the Vikings as their
squared off against the twelfth rated Concordia Bulldogs. Dana cut a
13-point halftime deficit down to one point late in the second half, but
fell 70-63.
Concordia raced out to a 9-2 lead in
the first five minutes of the first half. Chelsey Williams (JR,
Tabor, IA) hit a three pointer to draw the Vikings within two points
with 14:30 left in the opening half. The two teams remained within two
points of each other until turnovers and missed shots gave the Bulldogs
additional scoring opportunities. Dana went into the halftime locker
room down 33-20.
Dana trailed by double digits until
the 13:58 mark in the second half. Megan Finn (FR, Omaha, NE)
drained a three pointer to draw Dana within nine. Williams then
connected on a lay-up to climb within four points. The Bulldogs then
sank four consecutive free throws to go back up seven. Dana gave one
last scare to Concordia in the closing minutes. Amanda Bryant
(JR, Treynor, IA) drew Dana within thee with a lay-up. Tricia
Trotter (SO, Treynor, IA) then cut the lead to one point with a
jumper from the top of the key with 4:24 remaining. The Vikings were
forced to foul in hopes of getting closer, but Concordia sank six free
throws to end the game.

(SR, Des Moines, IS) closed out her regular season with
15 points, four steals, and ten rebounds. Amanda Bryant added 12
points in the loss. Tricia Trotter chipped in ten points and
three rebounds.
Dana finished the regular season
with a 9-21 overall record and 4-14 in conference. The Vikings will
travel to Mitchell, South Dakota on Tuesday for the first round of the
GPAC tournament. Dana, the eleventh seed, will face sixth seeded Dakota
Wesleyan in the Corn Palace at 8:00pm.
