Women’s Basketball Falls at Grand View

Mother Nature forced Dana to move its game against Grand View College from Saturday to Sunday.  The shift in game days seemed to affect the Vikings shooting as Dana fell 73-58.

Dana was seven of 26 from the field in the first half and shot just 32% for the game.  The start of the game looked favorably for Dana as Amanda Bryant (JR, Treynor, IA) hit a lay-up for an early lead.  Amy Nichol (SR, Des Moines, IA), playing her last college game in her home city, gave the Vikings a three point lead by hitting the back end of two free throws.  Minutes later Nichol would convert a Grand View turn-over for a lay-up, but this would be the last lead of the night for Dana.  The Vikings would miss 13 consecutive shots from the floor as Grand View would out score the Dana 25-9 to finish the half.

Half-time gave Dana a chance to shake off the ice and regroup.  The Vikings would begin to chip away at a 13-point halftime deficit.  Jillian Bryant (SO, McCook, NE) brought Dana within four points following a lay-up in the paint.  This would be the closest Dana would come to regaining the lead.  Grand View finished the game on a 22-11

Amanda Bryant scored 19 points.  Amy Nichol had 13 points and six rebounds before fouling out.  Jillian Bryant added ten points.  Erin Bazata had a game high 11 rebounds for the Vikings.

Dana is now 4-6 overall and 0-2 in conference.  Grand View improves to 5-6.  Dana will host preseason number three Hastings College on Wednesday evening at 6:00pm.
