Mustangs Buck Vikings

Morningside College proved too much for the visiting Dana College Vikings women’s basketball team on Saturday afternoon.  The NAIA third rated Mustangs defeated the Vikings, 85-60, in Sioux City, Iowa.

Dana kept the game close in the opening minutes of the game, but could not stop Morningside on the boards.  The first half saw Dana shoot 50 percent, but Morningside shot the same.  The main difference was the Mustangs knocked down five of nine free throws, compared to the one of two by Dana.  The second half saw Dana trail by as many as 30 points. The Vikings were limited to only 22 second half shot attempts, while Morningside took 38.

Tricia Trotter (SO, Treynor, Iowa) led the Vikings with 11 points off the bench.  Amy Nichol (SR, Des Moines, Iowa) and Jillian Bryant (SO, McCook, Neb.) each had eight points in the loss.  Nichol also had a team-high five rebounds.

Turnovers haunted the Vikings all afternoon.  Dana committed 31 compared to 16 of Morningside.

Dana falls to 4-8 (0-4 Great Plains Athletic Conference) on the season.  Morningside is 10-2 (4-0 GPAC) and are atop of the GPAC standings.

The Vikings are off until Saturday afternoon when the Defenders of Dordt College travel to Blair.  Dordt is currently 1-7 (0-4 GPAC) on the season.
