Morningside Tops Dana

The third rated team in NAIA visited Blair on Saturday afternoon.  Morningside College proved to be unwelcome visitors as they handed the Dana women’s basketball team a 115-61 defeat.

The Vikings were harassed all afternoon by the Mustang pressure.  Dana committed a season-high 33 turnovers, which resulted in 55 Morningside points.  The Vikings shot over 44 percent for the game, but were unable to overcome turnovers.

Amanda Bryant (JR, Treynor, Iowa) led all Vikings with 19 points and six rebounds.  Amy Nichol (SR, Des Moines, Iowa) had ten points and seven rebounds in her last home game.  Megan Finn (FR, Omaha, Neb.) led the Vikings with four assists.

At the end of the game, Coach Brenda Mechels and the Vikings’ basketball team honored their only senior, Amy Nichol.  Amy has been a four-year starter for the Vikings and ranks in the top ten in almost every statistical category in women’s basketball history.

Dana falls to 9-20 overall and 4-13 in Great Plains Athletic Conference play.  The Vikings will travel to Seward, Neb., on Saturday to take on tenth-rated Concordia University.  The GPAC play-off schedule will be released following games on Saturday evening.
