Women’s All-Conference Selections Announced
Sioux City, Iowa ~ The Great Plains Athletic
Conference announced the 2007 Women’s Soccer All-Conference team on
Thursday. The Dana College Women’s soccer team collected three second
team and two honorable mention selections.
Earning spots on the second team were senior
forward Danielle Mendoza-Farr (Council Bluffs, Iowa), freshman
midfielder Michelle Mullen (Omaha, Neb.) and freshman defender
Aimee Kersigo (Omaha, Neb.). Mendoza-Farr was the Vikings’ leading
goal scorer with 12 goals and three assists. Mullen finished her
freshman campaign with four goals and a team-high eight assists.
Kersigo led a Viking defense that allowed only 26 goals on the season.
Earning honorable mention selections were sophomore
goalkeeper Ashley Armstrong (Castle Rock, Colo.) and freshman
midfielder Sheila Mullen (Omaha, Neb.). Armstrong had a
brilliant year with 12 wins and nine shut-outs. Mullen helped to anchor
a midfield that helped to produce 41 goals on the season.
“This is a great year for the women’s soccer
program here at Dana College,” said first-year Head Coach Shad Beam.
“We made great strides to bring this program back to the high level it
was five years ago. We have a great future ahead of us with most of our
team returning next season.”
The Vikings finished the season at 12-8 and placed
fourth in the regular season standings. Dana advanced to the regional
semi-finals before bowing out to Morningside 4-2.
