Women’s All-Conference Selections Announced

Sioux City, Iowa ~ The Great Plains Athletic Conference announced the 2007 Women’s Soccer All-Conference team on Thursday.  The Dana College Women’s soccer team collected three second team and two honorable mention selections.

Earning spots on the second team were senior forward Danielle Mendoza-Farr (Council Bluffs, Iowa), freshman midfielder Michelle Mullen (Omaha, Neb.) and freshman defender Aimee Kersigo (Omaha, Neb.).  Mendoza-Farr was the Vikings’ leading goal scorer with 12 goals and three assists.  Mullen finished her freshman campaign with four goals and a team-high eight assists.  Kersigo led a Viking defense that allowed only 26 goals on the season.

Earning honorable mention selections were sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Armstrong (Castle Rock, Colo.) and freshman midfielder Sheila Mullen (Omaha, Neb.).  Armstrong had a brilliant year with 12 wins and nine shut-outs.  Mullen helped to anchor a midfield that helped to produce 41 goals on the season.

“This is a great year for the women’s soccer program here at Dana College,” said first-year Head Coach Shad Beam.  “We made great strides to bring this program back to the high level it was five years ago.  We have a great future ahead of us with most of our team returning next season.”

The Vikings finished the season at 12-8 and placed fourth in the regular season standings.  Dana advanced to the regional semi-finals before bowing out to Morningside 4-2.
