Blair, Nebraska ~ The Dana College women’s soccer team travelled to Sioux Center, Iowa on Saturday for a match against the conference leaders Dordt College.  The Vikings lost a close 2-1 decision to the Defenders.

Game conditions in Sioux Center were not the best for a soccer match.  The wind was gusting to 35 miles per hour, which affected the style of play.  Dordt opened the scoring by scoring in the seventeenth minute of the game.  Dana struck back eight minutes later as Emily Becker (SO, Norfolk, Neb.) scored her first collegiate goal.  She took a pass from Michelle Mullen (SO, Omaha, Neb.) and placed a shot past the diving Dordt keeper.  Dordt struck for the game winner with two minutes remaining in the first period.  Kate Du Mez launched a twenty-five yard shot that beat a diving Dana keeper.

The Vikings were outshot 15-7 on the windy afternoon.  Dana goalkeeper Chelsea Griffin (FR, Valley, Neb.) made eight saves on the afternoon.

Dana is now 5-4-1 on the season and 3-2-1 in conference play.  Dordt improves to 8-1 overall and 6-0 in conference.  Despite the loss, Dana remains in a three-way tie for second place in the conference standings.  The Vikings travel to Olathe, Kansas on Tuesday for a non-conference match against Mid-America Nazarene.  Kick-off is set for 4:00pm.
